Meet Andrew
Andrew Silva is an advanced jazz pianist, educator, and music producer who has done many projects as a side-man as well as his notable Porch Concert series which began in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In his Porch Concert Series he organized numerous free performances over three years and recorded an album to commemorate the band’s efforts entitled “In Flight”. He has played with artists such as Kendrick Scott, Joe Manis, Garret Baxter, Domo Branch, and numerous more.
Born in Portland, Oregon, Silva began his musical life when his parents received their great aunt’s piano. At high school he began taking music seriously after he joined the jazz ensemble and started playing with a group for the first time. Throughout high school Silva attended the Alan Jones Academy of Music where he studied and performed with several jazz combos. He graduated from the University of Oregon as a jazz piano performance major receiving numerous awards and scholarships to attend.
Following graduation, Andrew and his partner Leah moved to Detroit in search for an environment unlike anything they’d experienced in Oregon. He now teaches lessons and jazz combos privately in the metro Detroit area and works at the SAY Detroit Play Center while doing free jazz workshops at local high schools.
